The Communications Services Select SPDR ETF (XLC) , home of Meta, Alphabet and Disney, is doing one of the following at any given time this year: Breaking out, digesting said breakout and then breaking out again. We'll notice that the monster reversal happened a solid four months before the S & P 500 topped out in early 2022… and we can blame Meta (META) for that. Meta tailwind When META cracked back then, it took XLC with it. However, it, too, has a constructive chart pattern – a potential large base that is almost two years in length. This ETF is VERY illiquid, thus, it's not the best trading vehicle… That said, one particular holding has a similar looking pattern: Disney (DIS) .

But the Biden administration, lawmakers and ports management continue to differ in their views of the true nature of the threat. Kurt Fredrickson, a Coast Guard spokesman, told CNBC via email that even if the software is not Chinese, all software has vulnerabilities, regardless of origin. "Software is everywhere," Gene Seroka, executive director of the LA port, told CNBC in a recent interview at the TPM conference. They warn the crane software concerns are part of a much larger societal risk. He added that regardless of the origin of the crane software and the origin of a crane's manufacturing, there are ways to mitigate cyber risk.

Tennis - US Open - Mens Final - New York, U.S. - September 10, 2017 - Rupert Murdoch, chairman of Fox Corp, stands before Rafael Nadal of Spain plays against Kevin Anderson of South Africa. Florida-based Smartmatic is seeking damages from Fox Corp, Fox News and five individuals: Rudolph Giuliani and Sidney Powell, who were lawyers for Republican former President Donald Trump; and Fox hosts Lou Dobbs, Maria Bartiromo and Jeanine Pirro. But by establishing that he was involved in making decisions about Fox's coverage, Smartmatic would have a better chance of proving that Fox Corp is liable. In order to prevail in a defamation case, Smartmatic must prove that Fox knowingly spread false information or recklessly disregarded the truth, the standard known as "actual malice." Fox Corp and Fox News in April settled for $787.5 million another defamation lawsuit, brought by voting technology firm Dominion Voting Systems.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy meets with Executive Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Fox Corporation Lachlan Murdoch, amid Russia's attack on Ukraine, in Kyiv, Ukraine, in this handout picture released November 20, 2023. Ukrainian Presidential Press Service/Handout via REUTERS Acquire Licensing RightsKYIV, Nov 20 (Reuters) - President Volodymyr Zelenskiy met Fox Corp (FOXA.O) CEO Lachlan Murdoch in the Ukrainian capital in what Kyiv said on Monday was a "very important signal" of support at a time when global media attention has shifted from the war in Ukraine. A U.S. presidential election next November could bring the return of Republican Donald Trump, who has been sharply critical of support for Ukraine. Zelenskiy said it was vital to keep the world's attention focused on the war in Ukraine. Zelenskiy said Fox News journalist Benjamin Hall, who was badly wounded covering the war in Ukraine last year, and The Sun journalist Jerome Starkey were also invited to the meeting with Murdoch.

Jeff Smith, CEO and chief investment officer of Starboard Value, L.P., speaks at a panel discussion at the SALT conference in Las Vegas May 14, 2014. Smith's remarks at the 13D Monitor Active Passive Investor Summit came after Reuters revealed last week that Starboard had become a News Corp shareholder, a prelude to a potential shake-up at Murdoch's media empire. "We believe separate news and real estate assets could help unlock $7 billion or more in value," he added. Starboard, which has pushed for changes at companies ranging from Salesforce (CRM.N) to Darden Restaurants <DRI.N,> would struggle to shake up News Corp without Murdoch's consent. If News Corp separates its real estate assets, shareholders would benefit, Smith said.

Reuters reported on Friday that Jeff Smith’s Starboard is the latest activist to try and unlock value at News Corp (NWSA.O), the publisher of the Wall Street Journal, owner of book conglomerate HarperCollins and Realtor.com. Starboard, which took a position in the $13 billion company, is pushing for a spinoff of the real estate assets, according to the Wall Street Journal. Last year Irenic Capital Management agitated for the same transaction in reaction to the Murdochs’ desire to reunite News Corp with broadcasting company Fox (FOXA.O).

But the executive transition does not settle another potential power play that could occur upon Rupert Murdoch’s death, as framed by a document called the Murdoch Family Trust. It is the vehicle through which the elder Murdoch controls News Corp and Fox Corp, through a roughly 40% stake in voting shares of each company. The Murdoch Family Trust has eight votes: four of which are controlled by Murdoch, and the remaining four controlled by the four children from his first two marriages. Upon succession, the four older children will equally inherit Murdoch’s voting shares in the trust, according to Alice Enders, Head of Research at Enders Analysis. The shares in Fox and News Corp owned by Murdoch’s children through the trust are a combination of both classes of shares.

Even at a time when media consumption is splintering from traditional routes, particularly among younger people, Murdoch's influence is embedded in the country's information ecosystem because of its massive reach, media experts said. His local properties include Sky News Australia, a cable TV channel fashioned on the partisan style of U.S. network Fox News. "The Murdoch papers still have that key reach with working-class demographics that can still be influential," he said.
